In 1878, photographer Eadweard Muybridge captured what the human eye could not perceive-a fully airborne horse, galloping with all four feet off the ground. Investigate how artists in our collection incorporated and responded to the rapid technological advancements of the early 20th century, contributing to our changing perception of the world. Art History is an ongoing educational series delves deeper into the MSU Broad Collection. Want more? Get hands-on with a photography process of the late-19th century at our Tintype Portraiture workshop on August 25!]]>

Join us for an exhibit tour of "War and Speech: Propaganda, Patriotism and Dissent in the Great War." "War and Speech" is in the Main Gallery through November 11, 2018. This exhibit explores, through the MSU Museum's extensive World War I poster and militaria collections, the new ways in which Americans understood civic duty and used civic speech. At the same time, women, African Americans, Native Americans, and immigrants-not all of whom were full participants in the American body politic-were encouraged to enlist in the cause. Propaganda posters produced by the United States government, by commercial lithographers, and by average citizens created a new, modern way of signifying patriotism and the American people. "War and Speech" provides a window to that moment, framing Americans' ideas about nation and citizenship in this critical historic era. ]]>

Hindi for Kids http://events.msu.edu/main.php?view=event&calendarid=default&eventid=1532017518826
Public Programs

Our kids programs are open to children ages 6 to 12 and are designed to provide a fun learning environment that focuses on playful interactions in the target language. It will sensitize children to language learning, help them acquire an awareness and appreciation of other cultures, enhance their understanding of the native language, and hopefully motivate them to pursue language study. Our goals are to introduce the children to different facets of the target language and culture, expand their existing knowledge, and increase their abilities in speaking and listening while incorporating some reading and writing in the target language. We emphasize functional language use and cultural awareness. Our small class sizes allow us to work more closely with your children, differentiate instruction, and maximize learning outcomes. Concurrent sections to accommodate different levels are offered for most languages. Hindi meets on Fridays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., starting September 14 and running for 10 weeks through November 16, 2018.]]>

Exhibition Tour http://events.msu.edu/main.php?view=event&calendarid=default&eventid=1450810554611
Public Programs

Join us for an exhibit tour of "War and Speech: Propaganda, Patriotism, and Dissent in the Great War." "War and Speech" is in the Main Gallery through November 11, 2018. ]]>
