Symphony Orchestra, University Chorale, State Singers, and Choral Union  (Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, ...))

Leon Gregorian, professor of music, director of orchestras, and head of the graduate orchestral conducting program, will retire in May 2012. Please join us in honoring his extraordinary 27-year career at the College of Music at Michigan State University.

The concert will feature the MSU Symphony Orchestra, University Chorale, State Singers, and Choral Union in performances of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor (approximately 60 minutes) and Strauss's Don Juan (approximately 18 minutes). You can view the program here. MSU musicologist Carol Hess provides insight into the two works in this special edition of "Inside the Music."

Guest artists include Melanie Helton, soprano; Jayne Sleder, mezzo-soprano; Richard Fracker, tenor; and Peter Lightfoot, baritone.

A reception with refreshments and a champagne toast will follow in the Wharton Center's Jackson Lounge.

Tickets ($10, $8 for seniors) are available at the door, in 102 Music Building during university business hours, and from the Wharton Center Box Office. Admission is free for students with ID and those under age 18. For more information, please contact the College of Music at (517) 353-9958.

We invite members of the community to honor Maestro Gregorian and support the MSU orchestra program through a gift to this endowment.
