India's Milk Revolution: Verghese Kurien and the Story of Amul  (Academic)

Presenter: Mr. R.S. Sodhi, Managing Director of Amul India

India is the largest producer of milk in the world today - thanks in large part to a Spartan. MSU alumnus Dr. Verghese Kurien was the architect of a revolution that transformed India from a milk-deficient country to the world's biggest milk producer - improving the lives of millions of rural farmer families across India. His remarkable life and achievements are a testament to his faith in the ability of the common citizen to control their destiny.

In this public lecture, Sodhi will take the audience through a journey of Verghese Kurien's life and contributions, including the founding of Amul and its growth into a powerhouse as India's largest milk cooperative and food company. Sodhi will share his vision for Amul's future, and outline the opportunities and challenges in the context of India's growing middle class and the need for economic, environmental and social sustainability.

Networking reception will immediately follow lecture.

This event is sponsored by the Asian Studies Center, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, College of Communication Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, Eli Broad College of Business, International Studies and Programs and James Madison College.
