Altered Tour: Communicating with Ants  (Conferences / Seminars / Lectures)

Exhibition artist Kuia Shen explores the inner workings of ant colonies as metaphors for human society, with a particular focus on how ants are able to mimic responses to certain human technologies. In this Altered tour, Adrian Smith from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will provide insight into his specialized field of social insect chemical communication to shed light on the inner workings of an ant colony.

Following Smith's talk, museum and composer Charlie Cooper will experiment with Shen's notion of interspecies communication in a live musical performance with the ants.

The Altered Tour series invites scholars and experts across a multitude of disciplines to lead tours of our exhibitions from a non-art centered point of view. Special thanks to the MSU Department of Entomology for their support.
