 Professor Tim Beers describes:  The star catalog 
 of the ancient astronomer Ptolemy contained 
 scarcely more than a thousand stars.  The modern 
 Sloan Digital Sky Survey contains information 
 on more than two hundred million celestial 
 objects.  Ongoing sky surveys, and the even 
 more ambitious plans for the future, will 
 provide information about the structure and 
 history of the Milky Way Galaxy, and about the 
 nature of the universe as a whole.\n\n
