SUMMARY:Center for Statistical Training & Consulting Workshop: Models for Corner Solution Responses
DESCRIPTION:
 This course, presented by Dr. Jeffrey Wooldridge,
 will summarize different methods for modeling
 response variables that are continuous over
 a wide range of values but also pile up at
 one or more focal points (corners). Examples
 include variables that are nonnegative and
 take on the value zero for a nontrivial fraction
 of the population (such as charitable contributions)
 and fractional responses that may
 take on the values zero and/or one with positive
 probability. In addition to summarizing
 the pros and cons of linear models, we will cover
 Tobit models - without and with endogenous
 explanatory variables - as well as two-part
 or hurdle models. Applications to charitable
 contributions and labor supply will be illustrated
 using STATA. Registration begins February
 1, 2010. Please visit www.cstat.msu.edu
