DESCRIPTION:
 Dr. Gray will present her research in a lecture 
 titled, Designers' Challenge: The Use of Shawl-patterned 
 Fabrics in Tea Gowns of the 1870s-1880s. 
 Helvenston Gray will discuss the unique 
 discovery of a number of tea gowns and wrappers 
 constructed of the same or similar shawl-patterned 
 cachimere decousse fabrics dating 
 to the late nineteenth century. The marriage 
 of textile design with garment design is explored, 
 along with the orgin and spread of this 
 particular fashionable style. \n\n
