They are
survivors of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima
and Nagasaki. They are also Americans living
in what was formerly called the 'enemy state,'
the country that dropped the bombs. How do
we understand their stories? Hiroshima Nagasaki
Download, a documentary film based
on interviews with Japanese-American survivors,
urges us to think about the complex stories
of people who crossed national and cultural
boundaries in the Nuclear Age. Director Shinpei
Takeda will lead a post-film discussion.\n
\n
Shinpei
Takeda is a Japan-born filmmaker,
visual artist and musician based in Tijuana,
Mexico who has followed atomic bomb survivors
in North and South America for the last five
years.\n
\n
Naoko Wake is Visiting Assistant
Professor in the Lyman Briggs College at Michigan
State University. She is the author of
"Gender and Science in Hiroshima's Aftermath:
A Cross-cultural Approach", published in Endeavour.\n\n
