SUMMARY:THE GREAT LAKES ROUNDTABLE
DESCRIPTION:
The Great Lakes Roundtable will bring together
Canadian and American scholars, writers, and
policymakers who are interested in the ways
that Canada and the U.S. have historically used
and approached the Great Lakes. Underlying
the roundtable is the idea that understanding
the Great Lakes' past (particularly in the
20th century) is fundamental for comprehending
the present and considering the future. The
central theme for this particular meeting will
be the recent renegotiation of the Great Lakes
Water Quality Agreements, which builds upon
the 1972 and 1978 agreements. In addition
to addressing the waters of the Great Lakes,
the roundtable will engage other transborder
issues that are inherently intertwined with
environmental issues and water quality. The roundtable
also will forge connections that will
lead to linkages between institutions, academics,
and policymakers on both sides of the
border. Speakers include Fulbright Scholar Daniel
 Macfarlane, Consul General Roy Norton,
 State Senator Rebekah Warren.\n\n
