 Every year since 1982 the National Endowment 
 for the Arts has recognized and honored 
 a small number of the best of these individuals 
 with the award of the National Heritage 
 Fellowships. The exhibition "Extraordinary Ordinary 
 People: American Masters of Traditional 
 Arts," featuring a sampling of some who have 
 received this prestigious award, demonstrates 
 the diversity of their cultural contributions 
 and challenges viewers to reflect on those 
 who are contributing to the cultural legacies 
 in their own lives and communities.\n\n
