 At the end of the presentation, 
 the participants will be better able

 1.	Understand why adult models of informed 
 consent are inapplicable to pediatric 
 contexts and to explore conceptual challenges 
 of consent with pediatric patients/families.\n
 2.	Trace 
 the historical evolution of the ideal: 
 "Parental permission; child assent."\n
 3.	Be 
 more aware of AAP policy statements on parental 
 permission and child assent.\n
 4.	Consider 
 practical challenges of implementing the 
 ideal in clinical practice, and effective strategies.\n
 5.	Identify 
 special challenges of the 
 ideal in research contexts.\n
