SUMMARY:Reconstituting Greek Jewry after the War
DESCRIPTION:
 Presenter: Katerina Kralova, Visiting Fellow,
Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced
 Holocaust Studies, United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum / BECES / Institute of International
 Studies / Charles University, Prague\n
 \n
 During
 the Second World War approximately
60,000 Jews of Greece perished, most being
murdered in Auschwitz. But who were those Jews
who tried to re-establish themselves in Greece
after the Holocaust? To what extent did
they manage to restore their personal, communal,
 educational, and social institutions? Did
they seek punishment of the perpetrators? Was
the Greek civil war the reason why the survivors
 thought about emigration? These questions
will form the backbone of Dr. Kralova's talk
on postwar Jewish life in Greece. Co-sponsored
by James Madison College, the Residential
College in the Arts and Humanities, Peace
and Justice Studies, and the Center for European,
 Russian, and Eurasian Studies.\n
