DESCRIPTION:
 Marcia McNutt is president of the National Academy 
 of Sciences, former editor-in-chief of Science 
 journals and former director of the U.S. 
 Geological Survey.\n
 McNutt leads the academy 
 that is charged with "providing independent, 
 objective advice to the nation on matters 
 related to science and technology." Throughout 
 her career, she has played crucial roles during 
 some of the nation's and the world's most 
 pivotal events.\n
 The lecture is open to the 
 public and will be followed by a reception.\n
 The 
 Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture is supported 
 by the National Science Foundation; 
 the MSU offices of the President, Provost and 
 Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies; 
 the College of Agriculture and Natural 
 Resources; MSU AgBioResearch; the Environmental
