SUMMARY:From Power Politics to Popular Power: A Conference in recognition of Professor Michael Bratton
DESCRIPTION:
From Democratic Experiment in Africa (1997), his
seminal work with Nicolas van de Walle, to
Power Politics in Zimbabwe (2015), and through
20 years of studying public opinion as co-founder
 and former director of Afrobarometer,
 Michael Bratton's scholarship has profoundly
shaped the study of regime transitions and the
struggle for democracy in Africa. This conference
 will take stock of the\n
 uneven transitions
and shifting balances between elite power
politics and the struggle for accountability
and popular power, themes that have served
as the bookends of Bratton's influential career.\n\n
