 	About the Speaker:\n
 \n
 	Jean Allman is professor of African and African 
 American Studies and directs the Center for 
 the Humanities at Washington University in 
 St. Louis. Her research focuses on West African 
 history. She is the author/co-author of The 
 Quills of the Porcupine: Asante Nationalism 
 in an Emergent Ghana, "I Will Not Eat Stone": 
 A Women's History of Colonial Asante and Tongnaab: 
 The History of a West African God and 
 has edited several collections, including Fashioning 
 Africa: Power and the Politics of Dress.  
 Allman co-edited the Journal of Women's 
 History for six years and is series co-editor 
 of New African Histories at Ohio University 
 Press. She is currently the president of the 
 African Studies Association (USA) and serves 
 on the International Advisory Board of the 
 Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes.\n
