 	Dr. Peter Penar is 
 an assistant professor in the Department of 
 Political Science at Michigan State University. 
 Penar's research interests focus on democratization 
 in African countries and human rights, 
 particularly the role of international actors, 
 such as the African Union and regional 
 organizations, in political transitions, promoting 
 election quality and human rights protection. 
 He also conducts research on public attitudes, 
 socio-economic development and political 
 leadership in Africa. Penar has conducted 
 fieldwork in eight African countries, including 
 Zimbabwe.\n\n
