SUMMARY:K-12 Educators' Workshop: Engaging Youth in Social Justice Conversations Through Art and Literature
DESCRIPTION:
Learn about current public library programs designed
to showcase ways we can talk about social
 justice topics with children. Throughout
the country there is a growing interest in inclusion
and equity programs that tackle tough
topics through children's literature. This workshop
will teach you how to choose materials,
 hold age-appropriate conversations and include
 activities that extend learning. Explore
ways to partner with individuals in your community
who have a passion for social justice
topics and express your own passion as you make
your own screen printed shirt. Librarians
will offer inclusion and diversity guides for
assessing your classroom environment and provide
resources for building a classroom library
and curriculum with an eye towards inclusion
and equity. Presented by Rhonda Farrell-Butler
and Jason Shoup from Jackson District Library
and Emily Adams from the East Lansing Public
 Library.\n\n
