 The Honorable Roza Otunbayeva is the only female 
 to serve as head of state of the Kyrgyz Republic 
 or anywhere in the Central Asian region, 
 and she is one of only a handful of women 
 who has headed a Soviet successor state.\n

 Otunbayeva 
 was a prominent supporter of each of 
 the Kyrgyz Republic's two democratic revolutions. 
 She was named Interim President in 2010, 
 and was elected by referendum to a year- long 
 term of office. In 2011 she became the first 
 president of the Kyrgyz Republic (and anywhere 
 in the Central Asian region) to voluntarily 
 leave office at the end of a term.\n
