SUMMARY:Community Open Call: Identity Through Performance
DESCRIPTION:
What does it mean to be Asian American?\n
 How do
 we form identity through music?\n
 \n
 Musicians,
artists, and community members are invited
to tackle these questions with a virtual concert
 experience. Through a collaborative effort
between peers from MSU's College of Music
and the College of Arts and Letters, Eric Zheng,
a second-year Master of Music student in
Saxophone Performance, will present a series
of songs drawing upon his musical inspirations
as an Asian-American, which reflect music's
reciprocal effect on his racial identity. The
audience is encouraged to listen deeply and
contemplate how their own racial identity has
influenced their musical preferences, and vice
versa, as part of this shared experience.
For those interested, there will be a short
discussion/Q&A session to be held afterwards.
 Registration is required. \n
 \n
 Identity Through
Performance is part of the Community Open
Call, an experimental platform that invites
the community to become a central figure in the
planning process for the arts and cultural
programming offered at the MSU Broad Art Lab.
This initiative is supported by the Michigan
Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.\n
