SUMMARY:Speak Up: Performance Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:
How can poetry be used as a tool for liberation?
Writer and activist Keith LaMar, who has spent
almost 30 years in solitary confinement
on death row in Ohio, turned to spoken word performance
to find personal freedom. His story
is explored in DIE/GEST, on view at the MSU
Broad Art Museum through July 9, 2023. Led by
Keith LaMar and Guillermo Delgado, Academic
Specialist in Community & Socially Engaged
Arts at MSU, this workshop will encourage
all participants to experiment with poetic forms
that transcend the written word, inspired
by themes in DIE/GEST. Registration for this
free, online event is required.\n

This program
is presented in partnership with the Residential
College in the Arts and Humanities at
