Molecular Investigations into the Causes of Cerebral Palsy
(Conferences / Seminars / Lectures)
Presented by: Nigel Paneth, MD, MPH
Professor of Epidemiology and Pediatrics
College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University
At the end of the activity (presentation), the participants will be better able to: 1.Appreciate the prevalence and burden of cerebral palsy in the U.S.; 2.Gain an understanding of the major risks of cerebral palsy; 3.Learn about the use of the transcriptome (mRNA expression) in understanding patho-physiologic pathways that can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders; and 4.Understand how archived newborn blood spots, leftover from newborn screening, can be used to provide clues to the causes of cerebral palsy and perhaps other perinatal conditions.
