Autoethnography as a Practice of Reflection
(International Events (Study Abroad, ...))
Today's session will introduce the methodology of autoethnography as a potentially powerful way to enhance and deepen students' (and program directors') learning abroad. We will explore question such as:
What is autoethnography?
How is it related to other methodologies, methods, genres?
Who are its practitioners?
For what purposes has it been used?
What might be its uses in educational settings (in research and teaching)?
We will then take up and invite conversations around these questions, and will move on into an inquiry into how the practices of engagement, storytelling and reflection central to autoethnography can be useful in education abroad settings.
Presenters:
Julie Lindquist, professor, Department of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures
Suban Cooley, doctoral student, Rhetoric and Writing
