William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe  (Movie / Film)

William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe (2009)

Produced and directed by Emily and Sarah Kunstler, the daughters of William Kunstler. The NY Times described him as "the most hated and most loved lawyer in America." The sisters were awarded the L'Oreal Women of Worth Vision Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and just recently won the Special Jury Prize for Best New Filmmakers at the Traverse City Film Festival.

This movie explores the life of their father, the late radical civil rights lawyer. In the 1960s and 70s, Kunstler fought for civil rights with Martin Luther King Jr. and represented the famed "Chicago 8" activists who protested the Vietnam War. When the inmates took over Attica prison, or when the American Indian Movement stood up to the federal government at Wounded Knee, they asked Kunstler to be their lawyer.

Assistant Professor of Law Catherine Grosso of the MSU College of Law will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterward.
