Management of the Extremely Premature Newborn: Quantifying Outcomes and Ethical Considerations: Presented by John Lorenz, MD, Children's Hospital of New York - Presbyterian, Division of Neonatology, New York, New York. Objectives: 1.Summarize the range of survival rates reported for extremely premature infants born in tertiary perinatal care centers in the United States in 1990-2009.
2.Summarize the prevalences of major disabilities among survivors of extreme prematurity reported in the English literature.
3.Understand the limitations of these data.
4.Appraise our ability to predict outcome.
5.Discuss ethical principles relevant to applying this information to management decisions for extremely premature infants.
