Malcolm X 'Lost Chapters'
(Public Programs)
The Detroit Entertainment Commission and Keeper of the Word Foundation with One Love Global of Lansing are organizing an international celebration of Malcolm X. The events surround Malcolm X's contributions to America and his spiritual transformation to Malik Shabazz as a world leader for his people and America. Events begin May 1, 2010 and continue 365 days at multiple venues.
On Saturday, May 22, the MSU Museum hosts a reception and panel discussion, "Global Lessons From Malcolm X to Malik Shabazz Lost Chapters Symposium," 2-4 p.m., featuring William Alex Haley, and Gregory J. Reed. The "Lost Chapters" refer to omitted material from "The Autobiography of Malcolm X," which were preserved by Reed, founder of the Keeper of the Word Foundation, in 1992 at author Alex Haley's estate auction.
Reed, an MSU alumnus and personal attorney for the late Rosa Parks, is an MSU Museum research associate and helped developed the special exhibition at the MSU Museum through 2010, "Dear Mr. Mandela, Dear Mrs. Parks: Children's Letters, Global Lessons."
