Dr. MacDowell will present her research in a lecture titled, South African Quiltmaking: Uncovering National and Transnational Textile Traditions. MacDowell's twelve-year investigation into the historical and contemporary practice of quiltmaking in South Africa reveals both expected and unexpected data on the ways in which a form of expressive arts reflect both local and global cultural, political, and economic factors.
