Piano Monster
(Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, ...))
A festive gala with eight grand pianos played simultaneously by renowned pianists - this dazzling musical extravaganza is a concert like no other! Perfect for Mother's Day.
Artists, including Michael Callahan, Sangmi Lim, Panayis Lyras, Deborah Moriarty, Alan Nathan, Derek Polischuk, Minsoo Sohn, and Ralph Votapek, will perform all types of arrangements including Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals, narrated with Ogden Nash's playful verses by Kenneth Beachler, well-known Lansing entertainment professional.
This piece, a zoological fantasy written orginally for a small chamber orchestra, is considered one of the most successful examples of humourously themed music in the classical repertory and has become one of the composer's most popular works. It consists of a set of 14 orchestral character pieces, each meant to describe a particular animal, usually by mimicking the sounds it makes or characterizing the way it moves or carries itself.
The program will finish with an inspiring rendition of Stars and Stripes Forever by John Phillip Sousa.
Generously sponsored by Doug and Ginny Jewell.
