Lansing Symphony MasterWorks I: A Bold Beginning
(Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, ...))
Timoth Muffitt, conductor
Giora Schmidt, violin
The Lansing Symphony opens its 82nd season with critically-acclaimed violinist Giora Schmidt, one of the most charismatic young artists on stage today. For his command performance in Lansing, Mr. Schmidt brings his "lush and shapely sound" (New York Times) to Beethoven's always-popular Violin Concerto. The evening concludes with the majestic and awe-inspiring Organ Symphony of Camille Saint-Saens. With its virtuoso piano passages, brilliant orchestral writing, and cathedral-organ sound, this masterpiece is always a crowd pleaser. Also on the program is the atmospheric and colorful Blue Cathedral by Jennifer Higdon, a work that has become immensely popular with audiences worldwide.
