Brian Gilmore is a poet, writer, public interest lawyer and law professor. His two books of poetry are Elvis Presley is Alive and Well and Living in Harlem (Third World Press, 1993) and Jungle Nights and Soda Fountain Rags: Poem for Duke Ellington & the Duke Ellington Orchestra (Karibu Books, 2001). He is also a columnist for The Progressive Media Project. Gilmore received the Individual Artist Award from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2001 and 2003, was a Cave Canem fellow in 1997, and was a Pushcart Prize nominee in 2007. His poetry has most recently been published in Jubilat, Beltway, Ocho 23 and is forthcoming in the Sugar House Review.
