Mandolinist Ben Fuhrman will give a master class where he will go over the basics of improvisational technique for the mandolin using repertoire from the Appalachian, Bluegrass, and Jazz catalogues. Students will gain insight into the process of constructing basic solos over chord patterns. Topics to be covered include:

· Playing to fit the changes.
· Using the melody as a reference in solos.
· The importance of scales.

All pieces used will be given in both standard notation and tablature form.
Basic knowledge of the major scales in C, D, G, and their chords is recommended.
