Lansing Symphony MasterWorks III: Beethoven's Eroica  (Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, ...))

Timothy Muffitt, conductor
Felix Wang, cello

DIAMOND - Rounds for String Orchestra
SAINT-SAENS - Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor
BEETHOVEN - Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major "Eroica"

Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, "Eroica" is a pivotal work that forever changed the course of music. This monumental symphony was unlike anything audiences had ever heard before, and still has the ability to thrill audiences today with its emotional depth and structural rigor. The evening's program starts with David Diamond's engaging Rounds for String Orchestra, a 20th-Century classic. We are also pleased to welcome home Okemos native Felix Wang for a performance of Saint-Saens's first cello concerto. Mr. Wang has received critical acclaim for "beautifully wrought," "dazzling," and "soulful" performances.
