The Long Walk to Freedom

"...how 12 ordinary people from different racial and economic backgrounds came to accomplish deeds which changed the face of the nation. Together with tens of thousands of other Americans they joined the Civil Rights Movement to protest racial inequality, segregation, and discrimination in the 1960s.The film demonstrates that the struggle of civil rights, justice, and equality is indeed a long walk - an ongoing challenge requiring the participation of successive generations. It shows how ordinary people can get involved in social change."

February One
"February One tells the inspiring story of four remarkable young men who initiated the lunch counter sit-ins in Greensboro, NC on February 1, 1960. Based largely on first hand accounts and rare archival footage, the film documents one volatile winter in Greensboro that not only challenged public accommodation customs and law in North Carolina, but served as a blueprint for the wave of non-violent civil rights protests that swept across the South and the nation throughout the 1960's."

Social Injustice: Your Turn To Act, an exhibit on student activism, will be on display in the Main Library, 1st floor West, January 9 through February 29.
