Lecture: "The Minsk Ghetto: Jews and Byelorussians as Allies in Resistance"
Presenter: Barbara Epstein, Professor of History and member of the Jewish Studies Program at University of California - Santa Cruz.
Topic: Drawing on survivor's accounts, Barbara Epstein will chronicle the little-known resistance movement inside the Minsk ghetto, which enabled thousands of Jews to escape to the surrounding forests and join partisan units fighting the Germans. Epstein will also explore how and why in Minsk the Jews were able to rely on collaboration with those outside ghetto walls, unlike in Warsaw and elsewhere.
