Steve Luxenberg: DECODING THE MYSTERIES OF MEMOIR  (Conferences / Seminars / Lectures)

A conversation about memoir writing and the book "Annie's Ghosts," the Great Michigan Read for 2013-2014, by Steve Luxenberg. MSU faculty memoirists Marcia Aldrich and Lev Raphael join the Washington Post's Steve Luxenberg to explore one of America's most popular genres: the memoir. What are the sources of its ever-growing audience? What makes it unique and what makes it problematic? Why do so many readers prefer it to contemporary fiction-what are they looking for? What do authors of memoirs owe their audience, and what do they owe to their subjects? And finally, what are the particular challenges, pitfalls, rewards, and responsibilities of the memoir writer?

* DISCUSSION WILL BE VIDEOTAPED AND RECORDED FOR FUTURE MEDIA PURPOSES.
