The Center for Poetry presents Dennis Hinrichsen in Conversation  (Public Programs)

Lansing-based poet Dennis Hinrichsen joins the Center for Poetry as the first poet in the Spring Poetry Festival, whose 2015 theme is "Michigan Poets: Reading, Teaching, Writing". Dennis joins us for a conversation at 3 pm and a reading at 7 pm in the RCAH Theater. Both events are free and open to the public.

Afternoon conversation: "Teaching and the Mind of the Poet: Moving from Incandescence to Laser"
Young writers often see drafting a work as the entire process given the rush of discovery and all the scattered light there, but it's only one half of the effort. To finish a piece, writers need to think more thoroughly about revision--taking all that scattered light and with some guiding ideas--a prosody--find ways to sharpen and compress and fully transform that wild and raw music into a finished work of art, all without losing any of that wildness.

About Dennis: Dennis Hinrichsen is the author of seven collections of poetry: "Rip-tooth" (2011), "Kurosawa's Dog" (2009), "Message to Be Spoken into the Left Ear of God" (2004), "Cage of Water" (2004), "Detail from The Garden of Earthly Delights" (2000), "The Rain That Falls This Far" (1991) and "The Attraction of Heavenly Bodies" (Wesleyan New Poets) (1983). He lives in Lansing, Michigan and teaches at Lansing Community College.
