Greek Jewry of the Holocaust

Panelists: Steven B. Bowman (University of Cincinnati), Katerina Kralova (Charles University, Prague), and Kenneth Waltzer (MSU)
The panel features three scholars discussing different aspects of Greek Jewry in World War II. Professor Steven Bowman will discuss the relative roles of the Sephardi and Romaniot Jews during the period 1940-1945. Katerina Kralova examines the Jews of occupied Greece, their rescue, and the preconditions for their survival. Kenneth Waltzer discusses the experiences of Greek Jews in Auschwitz. The panel discussion will then expand to include questions from the audience. Co-sponsored by James Madison College, the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, Peace and Justice Studies, and the Center for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies.
