The Zigzag Kid (2012), directed by Vincent Bal
(Movie / Film)
Based on the beloved novel by David Grossman, "The Zigzag Kid" appeals to adults and children alike with its comical and picturesque quest. In this zany and action-packed tall tale, Nono, a nearly 13-year-old dreamer, longs to be a detective like his father, a famous police inspector, but Nono's wild nature constantly gets him into trouble. Fed up with Nono's fantasies and antics, his father sends him off to his uncle. On the way, the very imaginative Nono meets the charming international thief Felix Glick, entering a world of intrigue and pursuits, crossing paths with the famous singer Lola Ciperola and the mysterious Zohara, whose secrets will change Nono's life forever. Yael Aronoff will introduce the film. Israel Institute and Serling Israeli Visiting Scholar Yuval Benziman and Laura Apol, MSU Education, children's and adolescent literature, will discuss the film and answer questions afterward. Co-sponsored by MSU Libraries, James Madison College, and the Center for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies.
