Dia de los Muertos
(Special Events) Dia de Muertos is a sacred time for people of Mexican and Mesoamerican descent. It is a holiday derived from ancient Mexican celebrations in which family members and communities would come together to honor the lives of loved ones who have passed away. One of the oldest surviving traditions in the Western hemisphere, the Day of the Dead is also widely practiced throughout Latin America and the United States, reflecting a wide range of cultural beliefs about the fluid relationship between the past and present, the living and the dead. The event being coordinated will carry forward the traditions of the Day of the Dead in accordance with the university's core value of inclusivity and will extend the university's commitment to celebrating the diversity of our MSU community.
