Conflict in Yemen  (Conferences / Seminars / Lectures)

"Conflict in Yemen" panel featuring (among others) Shireen Al-Adeimi (MSU) and Abdullah Alrebh (GVSU)

The Yemeni Civil War is an ongoing conflict that began in 2015 between two factions: the internationally recognized Yemeni government, led by Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, and the Houthi armed movement, along with their supporters and allies. Both claim to constitute the official government of Yemen. Invited panelists will present their views on the conflict and solutions to this problem.

Shireen Al-Adeimi is a former language arts middle school teacher whose research focuses on enhancing students' literacy outcomes through classroom discussion. Through her research and teaching, she aims to advance dialogic classroom practices that improve elementary school students' critical thinking and reasoning skills, as well as their reading comprehension, academic language and persuasive writing. She is developing evidence-based pedagogical tools aimed at enhancing language and literacy across content areas, and is particularly interested in improving literacy outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse students.

Abdullah Alrebh is an assistant professor at Grand Valley State University.  He received his Ph.D. in sociology from Michigan State University. His research interests include the Middle East, Arabic literature and Islam. His major interest is Saudi Arabia and Islamic mobilization in Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
