A Chronology of Changes: The Evolution of Malcolm X
A special presentation by Zaheer Ali of the Brooklyn Historical Society and New York University
"My whole life has been a chronology of changes," wrote Malcolm X in his autobiography. From Malcolm Little to El Hajj Malik Shabazz, Malcolm X's life remains one of the most compelling stories of personal transformation in the 20th century. This presentation will trace the evolution of Malcolm X, with a particular focus on how his political and religious beliefs motivated not only his desire for personal change, but also his commitment to justice.
Zaheer Ali is the oral historian at Brooklyn Historical Society, where he directs the Muslims in Brooklyn Project, a multi-year public history and arts project designed to amplify the histories of Muslims in Brooklyn through the collection of oral histories, a K-12 curriculum, an arts exhibition and a series of public conversations and performances.
