Music and Healing: Finding Our Voice
(Special Events)
In conjunction with the exhibition, "Finding our Voice: Sister Survivors Speak," survivors, performers,
scholars, and practitioners will discuss the healing power of music in the shadow of gender-based
violence.
Amanda Cormier, a sister survivor, will perform her song "Sometimes," which she
composed in April 2019 to mark the opening of "Finding Our Voice". We will also
hear from music therapist Bob Huffman, GRAMMY Nominated singer-songwriter
Isaac Kalumbu, and student performers in Professor Marcie Ray's classes, "Music
and Violence," (MUS 992) and "Music, Gender, and Sexuality" (MUS 424).
Presented as part of Michigan State University "It's On Us" Week.
Co-sponsored by Survivor Strong, the MSU Research Consortium on Gender-Based Violence, MSU Center for
Gender in Global Context, MSU Center for Survivors, MSU College of Music, and MSU African Studies Center more information...
