How can looking be a form of activism? In this gallery experience with education team members Matthew Boyd and Katie Greulich, participants define, practice, and imagine acts of looking that have documented injustice and forged social change. Situated within the Visual Citizenship gallery, participants explore the fraught link between citizenship and spectatorship through close-looking. Throughout, audiences question the role that mechanically-reproduced images -- including photographs, prints, and words -- play in the imagination of community and the performance of civic belonging.
