Invasive Species: What they are, How they get here, and Why we should care  (Special Events)

Invasive species can dramatically change the landscape and cause harm to both our economy and environment, making this an important topic in conservation.

Within the United States, invasive species have contributed to the decline of 42% of threatened and endangered species , costing the country approximately $120 billion a year. This talk will discuss how invasive species contribute to the decline of biodiversity, pathways of introduction, steps we can take to prevent new infestations, and learn about some species already found here.

This presentation is part of the Great Lakes Lectures series, online lectures featuring academics from Michigan State University. This series is organized by Prof. Dan Hayden and Dr. Elias Aydi, and live streamed from the Digital Scholarship lab at MSU Libraries.
